Mountain Kilimanjaro is the highest Mountain in Africa at an elevation of about 4,900 metres (16,100 ft) from its base to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) ASL with three different volcanic cones i.e “Kibo", "Mawenzi" and "Shira”. The Mountain is part of the Kilimanjaro National park and a prominent Mountain Climbing Destination with shrinking glaciers and ice fields. Kibo is the highest followed by Mawenzi at 5,149 metres (16,893 ft); and Shira which is the shortest at 4,005 metres (13,140 ft).
Wildlife of Mountain Kilimanjaro
The Mountain is drained by numerous Rivers i.e Lumi and Pangani and Streams along the Southern and Eastern sides of the Mountain. Around the Mountain in the lower slopes and forests are numerous wildlife animals which include; Elephants, Cape buffaloes, Bushbucks, Chameleons, dik-diks, duikers, mongooses, warthogs, Zebras, Hyenas, Sunbirds, Kilimanjaro shrew.
Climate of Mountain Kilimanjaro
The Climate around the Mountain is determined by the height of the Mountain ASL with two various rainy seasons one occurring from March to May and another in November. The Southern slopes of the Mountain receive heavy rainfall amounts compared to the Northern slopes. The average temperatures around the Mountain is −7 °C (19 °F) with day time having −4 °C (25 °F) and night time as low as −15 to −27 °C (5 to −17 °F).
