How to qualify for a discounted gorilla permit during low season in Rwanda

Gorilla trekking is the highlight of Rwanda tourism as people/ tourists all over the world visit the land of thousand hill to walk with these gentle giants in their natural habitats at volcanoes national park. Other only two countries where you can meet these great apes are Uganda and DR Congo. Gorilla in Uganda can be trekked from Mgahinga national park which is the part of Virunga massif where even volcanoes national park is found.

Another park in Uganda where gorilla can be trekked is Bwindi national park which is the home to over a half of the remaining endangered mountain gorillas. The discount on gorilla permit is only offered to the foreigner non resident who normally buys permits at a standard price 1500$. Other Africans and the resident who buy permits at the standard price of 500$ are not qualifying for this low season discounted permit.

We have given the terms and conditions that must be fulfilled for one to qualify for a low season gorilla trekking permits. Remember the low season as described by Rwanda development board run between 1st November to 30 May of every year. For those that come for the conference in Rwanda during the low season, they will automatically qualify for the discounted permits and they will be necessitated to first fulfill the stated terms and condition for them to qualify.

The discount offered between 1st November to 30 May is 30 percent discount of 1500$ which 1050$. With this discount, you will be able to save 450$ on your Rwanda gorilla trekking safaris in Rwanda.

Here are the terms and conditions for the discounted low season permits

1. To qualify for the discounted low season in Rwanda, you must book 2 nights in Akagera national park
2. You also must have booked 2 nights in Nyungwe national park
3. You must provide the proof of payment of at least one activity from each above-mentioned park
4. The client will have to avail hotel proof payment for the booking of the two nights
5. You must provide your passport copy to Rwanda development board
6. The client must be a foreigner but not an African resident
7. Your travel arrangement must be between 1st November to 30th may which is a low season.

Why Rwanda offers mountain gorilla trekking permit discount during the low season

During the low season, the gorilla demand tends to drop low as the country experience less visitors compared to the peak season of June to October. To encourage visitors continue visiting gorillas as it is important for gorillas to keep receiving visitors even during low season, the board devised the mean to come up with the discounted permit to encourage travelers to keep visiting the mountain gorillas

Activities to do in Rwanda other than gorilla trekking

Chimpanzee trekking

Chimpanzee trekking at Nyungwe national park is done all year round. The cost of chimpanzee trekking permit is 250 and they can be secured from Rwanda development board. Chimpanzee like gorillas is part of the 5 great apes and they are also found in Rwanda at Nyungwe national park and Gishwati-Mukura national park which is the newly established park in Rwanda.

Golden monkey trekking at volcanoes national park

Another activity to do in Rwanda is trekking the joyful golden monkey which is another primate that lives in volcanoes national park with gorillas. Golden monkeys lives on lower altitude of the park compare o mountain gorillas. The cost of golden monkey trekking permit is 100$ and the activity is done early in the morning.

Wildlife viewing at Akagera national park

Akagera national park is the haven for the wildlife. Game drives are usually arranged and start from the park headquarters. You will be able to encounter animals like the Africa big 5 of lion, leopard, elephant, rhinos and cape buffalo during your time at the park. Other animals, primates and birds are also found at Akagera.
