Mount Gahinga, Climbing the Virunga Mountains and Volcanoes of Africa
Mount Gahinga is an extinct volcano situated in the Virunga Mountains along the border between Rwanda and Uganda as well as between Mount Muhabura and Sabinyo.
The volcano is the smallest of all the three volcanoes at an elevation of 3,474 meters. The Volcano also includes a caldera 180 meters wide and the volcano from where the name of the Mgahinga National Park was derived and is part of the 8 volcanic mountains of the Mufumbiro ranges spanning across the borders of the three countries i.e Uganda, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The vegetation terrain along the Mountain is Afro Montane with Bamboo which in habit the rare species of Mountain Gorillas, Golden Monkeys as well as other wildlife species and birds too.
Mount Gahinga Volcano Hiking Process
The Volcano is easy to hike requiring one a period of 6-8 hours with less ladders to scale making it ideal for any traveler to get to the top even those not good at hiking. It also has a beautiful swamp at the top that can be spotted by all that get there.
