Mount Muhabura, Volcano Climbing Tours in Rwanda and Volcanoes National Park
Also referred to as Mount Muhavura, the Volcano is an extinct Volcano in the prominent Virunga Mountains along the border between Rwanda and Uganda. It is elevated at 4, 127 meters hence the 3rd highest of the 8 Virunga Ranges and part of Albertine Rift in the Western Arm of the Great East African Rift Valley.
It spans across two National Parks i.e Volcanoes National Park Rwanda and Mgahinga National park. In the local Kinyarwanda language the word Muhabura means “The Guide”.
Mount Muhabura Volcano Hiking Process
Hiking to the top of Mount Muhabura Volcano is quite tough and challenging due to the fact that the slopes are very steep requiring you a full Day starting at 7:00 am from the park headquarters of the prominent Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda in Kinigi.
The hiking Permits are purchased at the headquarters and porter are available to be hired. You will transfer through the vegetation zones along the slopes then after some time, you will reach the top where you will have beautiful views of the other Mountains and the twin Lakes.
