The impact of 2010 kasubi tomb fire

On 16 March 2010 the kasubi tomb was destroyed by fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be known even to the date but initially UNESCO listed the tomb as one of the world heritages in danger, but it was since removed from the list.

Since 2014 the innovation effort has been taking place led by the Buganda kingdom with the support of government of Uganda, UNESCO and the government of Japan. Since 2010, the tombs have been closed for tourist, but it was recently opened in august 2028 for the public to visit the tomb after the completion of the major reconstruction work.
