Gorilla trekking is the highlight of most of most of the tourists that come to East African countries. These endangered apes can be trekked from Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic republic of Congo. Of the three countries mentioned to of them have been declared by who to have gotten some cases of mpox (monkey pox) which recently was declared a world healthy emergency. However, with some guideline in place, you can still trek gorillas safely from any of the three countries that inhabit gorilla. Mind you all over the world, these are the only countries where gorilla can be trekked.

Here is what you need to do to ensure that neither you nor mountain gorillas get affected during the trekking safari

Vaccinate yourself before coming for gorilla trekking

For now, there is no designated vaccine for mpox. However, it has been proven that smallpox vaccine is effective for mpox prevention. Therefore, if you planning to come on African gorilla trekking safari especially from Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo, take your two vaccination jabs to ensure that you will not at a risk of getting affected by the virus.

Keep seven-meter distance away from gorillas

Gorillas shares 98.3 percent of their DNA with human. That means most of the diseases that can affect human can also affect gorillas. Mpox (Monkey pox) is among the many diseases that can affect both human and gorillas. However, you need to remember that mpox is a contact disease. Therefore, keeping seven meters away from gorillas will protect both you and the endangered mountain gorillas from being affected by this viral disease

Where a face mask and graves.

Putting on a face mask and graves will protect you, your fellow trekkers and the gorillas from getting affected by mpox. Mpox transmit through skin contacts. Therefore, having your body masked, will stop you from getting infected even if you contact an infected individual or mountain gorillas. On another note, you too will not be transmitting the virus to other individual you will be trekking with or to our beloved hosts.

Wash your hand regularly.

Washing your hand with the soap or sanitizer will kill the mpox virus instantly. Make sure you keep on washing your hands whenever you touch on a public place, touch on gorillas, or greet by hand shaking you fellow travellers or the guides.

Not engage in a random kissing or sex.

Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo is the home for beautiful women and handsome men. On your African safari, you might be attempted to engage in sex acts with these beautiful people. On any other day, you can date these people but at least only date if you are sure of their healthy status to avoid contacting mpox

Not go trekking when you are not ok

If you are not feeling well (in case of any chance of being already affected by the mpox), communicate to the relevant authorities in advance to ensure that you do not put other travellers’ life and that of gorillas in danger. The permit will be rescheduled, and you will be able to trek on the future date.

Conclusion

By following the stated guideline, your safety and that one of gorillas will be ensured throughout you gorilla trekking safari during the African safari. Your life and that of our endangered gorillas is our priority, we shall do anything humanly possible to ensure you safety.
