Serengeti national park is remotely located in the wilderness. Therefore, there is no direct flight to the park. However, the park is served by all weather airstrip that are distributed among different park sectors. Different airlines also arrange different flights to the park. There are two daily scheduled flights from Arusha airport that lands at different airstrips within Serengeti national park. Some of the popular airlines that serve this rout include Auric Air, Coastal Aviation, Flight link, and Regional Air. The nearest international airport to Serengeti is Kilimanjaro international airport which is an hour flight away from the park.

It is important to identify which airstrip is near your accommodation and your area of interest that you are planning to visit as landing at a far airstrip will come with extra driving time to reach your destination. Additionally landing at a far airstrip will come with extra cost of transfer. Some of the common airstrips can land onto in Serengeti include Seronera, Kogatende,Serengeti kusini, Lobo, Fort Ikoma, Sasakwa Grumeti, Seronera, Lobo and Kirawira airstrip and we have detailed below which lodges and camps are served by each airstrip.

Seronera airstrip, Serengeti

Seronera airstrip is located in the Centre of Serengeti national park near seronera visitors’ information center. The airstrip is approximately 2 hours away from both Naabi gate and Ndaba gate in seronera conservation area making it accessible to people in central and northern Serengeti. Near the airstrip, you will find two airstrip, public composite, tourist information centre, shops and bars which will make your life comfortable while in the region. The airstrip mainly serves Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge, Ikoma Tented Camp, Four Seasons Serengeri Safari Lodge, Lemala Ewanjan Tented Camp, And Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas among others.

Kogatende airstrip, Serengeti

The airstrip is located at the banks of Mara River with the intent of serving the remote area of the Serengeti national park. It is with the Kogatende conservation area of norther Serengeti. The airstrip is near both klein and Bologonja gates. For the travellers interested in witnessing the mara crossing of the wildebeest during the great migration. This is where you should plan to land at. The accommodation around Kogatende airstrip include Nasikia Mobile Migration Camp,  Ole Serai Camp,  Kenzan Mara Tented Camp

Serengeti Kusini Airstrip, Serengeti

Serengeti Kusini Airstrip is located in southern Serengeti in Ndutu conservation area. The air strip is one of the most used airstrips in Serengeti national park. For those interested in witnessing the great migration during the calving season between January and march, then this is the airstrip you should use. The airstrip is near Lake Ndutu, Lake Elemti, Lake El Dabsh and Lake Masek. Some of the viable accommodation options around Serengeti Kusini airstrip are sanctuary kusin camp, African Safari Serengeti kusin and Lake Masek tented camp.

Lobo airstrip, Serengeti

For those planning to visit Serengeti and nearby parks, lobo airstrip can be your go to airstrip. Located approximately 6 kilometers from klein gate and Bologonja gate in the northeastern Serengeti in the lobo area. The airstrip is strategically located in area where you can be able to witness the wildebeest migration before they close over to Kenya. The popular accommodation around the airstrip includes Lobo wildlife lodge, Taasa lodge and Kimbilio Serengeti camp

Kirawira B airstrip, Serengeti

Kiraeira airstrip is the small airstrip located in the western part of Serengeti national park. The airstrip is just few kilometres away from river Grumeti. Therefore, if your dream is to catch wildlife crossing rive grumeti, then this is the perfect place to land at, the airstrip is in a close distance to Mwanza town and Ndabaka gate of Serengeti.

Fort Ikoma Airstrip

Fort Ikoma airstrip is located in the northwestern part of Serengeti national park.  Due to its closeness to Seronera airstrip, this airstrip is not that busy as it is mostly used in the peak season when seronera airstrip is overwarmed. You can use the same a suggested accommodation for the people who uses seronera airstrip

Sasakwa Grumeti Airstrip, Serengeti

Sasakwa airstrip is located within the Singita Grumeti Reserves‚ which borders the western side of Serengeti National Park to the north of the Western Corridor. The area encompasses 400 acres of unrivalled wilderness and forms part of the famous migratory route‚ which is traversed by hundreds of thousands of animals every year. Arusha airport, Serengeti

Arusha airport is in the tourism capital city of Tanzania. The airport is being expanded as they are building a new terminal for the plane. It is a 10-minute drive from the capital to the airport. The flights at the airport are scheduled and they are scheduled to take place everyday land at various airstrips.

Schedule of Flights to Serengeti

Typically, all the main airlines have morning and afternoon flights, with the same aircraft turning back to Arusha after every flights. The flight time is approx. 1 hour though actual time depends on how many stops the flight will make, (known as ”hops”) as they land to drop or pick up passengers from various airstrips. Most flights limit stops to the fewest possible so the timing of an hour to Serengeti is practically fairly accurate. See the schedule below.
